Default TMO 2.5 lost sounds of Merchants ....

Hi everyone.

I have a few instance of lost sound through the sonar for merchants even under 200o yards . I am playing TMO 2,5 with Optical target correction on SH4 version 1.5 , no other mods installed at all.

In 6 Patrols in the same career its just now started , with one of the smaller 2500 odd ton merchants.

When ' aiming ' the active sonar to ping at his location determined through the persicope the sonar man says ( via the text message ) range is -214567346 .

Any ideas ? Could not see anything in the threads but there are alot to check, hope I have not missed anything ....

Beste Grüße
RG

Hello Railgun, I can't answer why the text message from the sonar man is at the value you received. I do know you shouldn't pay a bit of attention to him though.

If you want an accurate range-to-target with the sonar, you'll need to take it yourself. With a specific relative bearing of a target (gleaned from the periscope), set the sonar bearing dial (the right dial) to the bearing (use either the Home/End keyboard keys, or mouse click on the dial itself), then click the left/bottom toggle switch to send the bing. You'll see the left range dial circle up to the 4000+ yard distance and stop when it strikes the target. You may need to re adjust the bearing a degree or two if your first bing missed the target. You'll hear a definite "return bing" when the target is struck. Now, click the right hand toggle switch to "send" the range to the TDC. If you go to the Position Keeper, you'll find the accurate range sent from your sonar bing there. Asking the sonar man to give you range will never give you an accurate estimate.

As far as your question regarding not hearing a target ships sounds through the hydrophone, this could easily be from the stock game. I know there are several ships that don't have the sound files added. You'll not hear them at all. Could be the reason you didn't hear it with your example. Do you know which ship it was? We try to correct as much as we can when we mod the game, this particular ship may have been missed with that particular sound file. It's tough to make sure each and every object has the right sounds associated with it (there's well over 100 ships in the inventory). I'm working on making an OTC edition for RFB/RSRDC. I found no less than a half dozen planes not having engine sounds. Things just happen.

Hey thanks Capn Scurvy.

Ill look up the ship, sounds like a plausable reason to me . As for the range think I usually manually ping and update the TDC with the switch in the panel.

Ill leave my sonarman alone but it was te missing ship sound that really bothered me .

Big thanks to all moddeers out there, makes a passtime into great fun !

Beste Grüße
