Default RFB keeps crashing :(

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and SH4. I was playing the stick 1.5 version of SH4 for about a week with no problems. Yesterday I downloaded the JSGME program and the Real Fleet Boat mod and installed it. I played with it a bit in the training missions and liked it, so I started a new career with it installed.

However in my very first mission, every time I approach a merchant convoy the game crashes. Four times in a row today. I go back to the stick v1.5 and no crashes.

I am downloading the TMO mod now to see if that crashes or not.

Has anyone heard of this issue before, or have any suggestions on what to look at? I'd really like to use this mod if I can.

Thanks, and sorry for being "that" guy !

I haven't heard of anyone else using Windows 8 yet, so you might have found an incompatibility issue. (Lucky you!) But there is a utility called Large Array Aware which allows programs running under Windows Vista or 7 to access more than 2GB of RAM. It seems to fix most of the CTD problems reported on this forum. I don't know the url. Or try "4GB Fix for SH4":

It solved my CTDs (under Windows 7, though).

Thanks for the replay. 4gb patches generally only apply to 32bit operating systems, since 64bit can natively address more than 4gb.

Like I said though the stock version runs fine, and so far so good with TMO as well. I've sunk two merchants in my first mission and then only problem i've had so far is that the task of "Patrol the designated area for 5 days" doesn't seem to want to end 10 days later :p

As I understand it, the 2GB limit applies to any 32-bit executable, even in a 64-bit OS environment. Check here for more information:

http://superuser.com/questions/42783...4bit-windows-7

If the exe hasn't been told that there is more than 2GB available, it apparently doesn't ask for it. And SH4 is too old to know about 64-bit OS. RFB changes the sim environment, and can add a lot of objects at times, so I'm told it can require more memory than the stock game. I had CTD problems entering/leaving base with RFB in an 8GB Windows 7 64-bit environment. Used the 4GB Fix and haven't had a recurrence. YMMV.
