my distance calcs seem half off

Im having a problem using the vernier dial thing to estimate distance. I'm always about half of what my spotter says. I watched the video from here and I'm sure my procedure is right and I'm pretty sure I picked the right ship. I got real close and my watch guy says 1100 and I get around 500. The thing I noticed about the video update was that he was no longer using mast x2. My book still says mast height x2 but I think I have the newer dials. Could this be my problem? Am I supposed to use 1/2 of the mast height x2?;
I'm using lsh3 5.1 with olc addon and type II gauges because I'm starting a new campaign in 1939

Have you tried multiplying by 2?

Isn't half of the mast height x2 simply the mast height?

Try that and see how you go.

Lol yah. I'm an idiot I just multiplied by two and I am good to go!
