to buy or not to buy silent hunter 3

Hey guys

I have SH4 for a while now and i love it! I got curious about silent hunter 3 and would like to check it out. But im wondering if its worth it? How different is it from SH4? I know it are german u-boats but does it make a different gameplay experience from the us subs? Also do you have all the abilities in sh4 to configure your sub, like giving crew promotions, 'buy' new equipment for your sub? Last but not least, the realism factor, how is it?
And before i forget, are there nice mods for it?

I know i could just google most of my questions but i prefer hearing personal experiences
