Default [WIP] Abandon Ship

Hi all,
I have been thinking, seeing as many U-boats have abandoned ship, why not implement it, of at least graphically? I have imported SH4 lifeboat models to S3D, and I am just wondering; how do I spawn a couple of these using a keyboard shortcut? It would be immersing to stand on the bridge and see 4 liferafts sail away, while you crash dive the sub and stay until the end.

I had thought about it too on last days...some ideas:

- we can have some real WWII movie for each situation (rescue by friendly ship or uboat, rescue by enemy, destroyed by enemy or perish at sea without help). These can be called using a routine on SH3 script this way: if you want to abandon for any motivation, then you press a specific key that will roll the dice internally that will call the correct movie and finish! Itīs absolutelly factible.
I tried to find these movies on the net but itīs not easy! If someone can help I can made the mod.

- another possibility is to make these movies using Sh3 itself. Again a help from someone that have good skiils to make these movies is necessary. Here we can use our imagination, including life boats etc. Having them, I can finish the mod.

I guess that my wife will throw my pc by window...I just achieve to have a working real 3d abandon boat mod.

It works this way:
- When you want to abandon you will press CRTL+ALT+B and the process begins,

1. A sound (voice) is played saying to prepare to abandon boat,
2. A voice confirming a radio message sent,
3. Then, small and few (3 to 5) lifeboats start to be deployed one by one, going slowly away,
4. A last dive command is listing,
5. Few moments late, a explosion is listen and saw and the boat goes down until that Black Screen of Dead comes
6. Then, a dice is rolling internally...

(until this point the mod is done)

7. Then the correct window will be oppened on the background, showing in a static image, what was your fate and your crew (my idea here is to have 3 possibilities: a image showing the survivors being rescue by a friendly uboat or an image of the survivors being rescuing by allied ship or a image showing the survivors lost at deep ocean).

I need help on the sound voices and also on the background images. If someone can help please let me know.

Like I said, to finish it, will be need the sound with the correct voices in german what i canīt do. We need to wait for help.

i know a guy with a recording studio and some other stuff

i also need the lines of what needs to be said

I will write some lines on what I thinhk that could be good and will PM you. I intend to post a movie of the mod working and this will also help you with the time voices syncrhonization. Anyway, isnīt necessary to be exact, because no lips synchro is necessary.

Stiebler ?

Stiebler has developped an "abandon ship mod" inside his patch for H.sie patch.

There is everything except the 3D animation. Including the button, the menu.ini implementation, the graphics for the button (to press for abandon the ship), the messages etc.

(I did the proper graphic for WAC, for the button, because is not so big like in GWX)

Maybe is possible to merge these future mod with the one from Stiebler?

Yes, I know about it, I use it. Itīs a great addtion for the game. The beta mod that Iīm working with is already tested with Stieblerīs one and works very well. But I liked so much the result that I guessed if should possible to improve it. For example Stieblerīs solution donīt have sounds, real abandon scene, real scuttle by charges, no final unique screens. This is what this current mod do, but yet need to be polished.

At first I intend to release it in two possible versions: one just for Stieblerīs mod, adding the going away lifeboats and another with sound, scuttle charges, and new final screens, but to run this last one will be need the Sh3 script mod too.

Iīm very busy at my RL but yet with some few daily time to work on it. A probably ETA in one week.

Astounding work Rubini, can't wait for the final. Please make this available for all ( those that use H.Sie & Stiebler mods, and those that use straight GWX/NYGM etc. supermods ) kaleuns if possible. Many thanks shipmate

Perhaps alterable for surrendering?

I've no idea how this could be done, save for coding. But it occurred to me that, while this seems ideal for abandoning a crippled boat, this isn't something that could be done, say, if one is under attack because one's done an emergency blow to surface because otherwise the boat is about to become a cinderblock. Once you've surfaced you get blown to flinders.

Could something be added that changes the 'nation-status' of the surrendering U-boat to either Allied or Neutral? Once you've decided to surrender you'd still have to successfully surface, but the moment you'd breach the surface you'd be identified as Allied or Neutral, after which the rest of the process for abandoning ship, as described, would continue.

Just a thought.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the comment and ideas! With players ideas/comments we always will have a better mod at the end. So, keep comming!

- To change nationallity we will need a hardfix. Sh3 script is just an expert macro, and the others things on this mod were made using just S3D, so no possibility to make this one at my end. This means that if you surfaced near an enemy it will kill you. No fix until now...unless Hsie or Stiebler try to found a way to make the uboat neutral after severe damaged...Itīs definitively a good a idea!

- As Iīm always stay messing with the game files i didnīt use SH3 commander from a long time. At first i also canīt see how this can be usefull for playing with this type of mod (I mean: what Sh3 commander can add to tjhis type of mod?)...can you explain better your idea?

And i should like to ask ppl opinion/ideas about a limitation that I found to show external images over the game window. Sh3 (and perhaps some others D3D apps) donīt allow that external images/windows could be displayed over it(on top) if the app (sh3 on this example) is running maximized. So, to show your and crew final "Fate" window (after abandon boat) itīs necessary to alt tab, see your "fate" window and return to game to continue. Here in my pc i have no problem with this...but i recall that before using WideScreen mod I canīt alt tab without crash the game. So, my question: is this true for majority of players or not?

Edit: I can fix this adding the correct image to the final page on menu_1024_768.ini on the fly...but this also means that ppl will need to edit itīs own menu_1024_768.ini before use the mod...and this is always a bit complicated.
