When I'm not playing? I install mods, uninstall mods, experiment with mods...just about anything but play. In fact, I don't play much.

I fear that the way things are going I might not get any playing done either. Just planning, adding mods and reading about U-boats. Maybe it's a good thing

Mods. The reason I've never finished a career in seven years' playing. I had just started my first when the Kiel Canal mod was released. I wanted to sail through the canal so I started over. Then came the buildings and trees for the Canal, and I started over again. Rubini's Harbor Traffic mod was next, so I started over just to see the cool ships. Then Real U-Boat, the first supermod, was released, and I had to play it from the beginning. The the first Grey Wolves came along and I wanted to see what they'd done with the harbors. Then GWX. Then GWX2. Then GWX3. Then the St Naz mod, with the working lock gates. Then the... I'm just gearing up to start again. Someday I'll finally have a new computer. And then I can start all over again.

I haven't been around from the start of modding SH3, but I can see how it went with you and how this is going to go with me: when I get a new computer I'll probably try Living Silent Hunter. And by that time HAHD might be ready for experimenting too. Eventually there's probably gonna be some mods made on top of LSH and HAHD too. We'll be swimming in this mod soup for a long time

I remember there being a saying that no plan survives the sighting of the enemy
![]() This plan went to the garbage can when I didn't notice I had accidentally put caps lock on and then pressed n to get the manual recognition. The game interpreted it as shift+n which in my Stiebler modded system puts on forced time compression 64 ![]()

This is about the same problem but using the Maneuve-Board in a classical way with the convoy always in the center.
x0: initial position of u-boat before attack x1: desired attack position on the 3. row of the convoy x2: desired position after diving under the convoy x3: desired escape route with 2kts speed. ![]() x0,..,x1: 183°@1.6kts x1,..,x2: 150°@3.0kts x2,..,x3: 197°@2.0kts

Nice to see you're using my Maneuvering board
![]() Thanks LemonA! I'm still learning the maneuvering board techniques so I appreciate the helping hand here ![]() I might try using the approach you calculated as I am planning to attack the convoy again. On the other hand maybe I really shouldn't as the 0 m/s wind speed seems to make enemy's pinging way too accurate for my taste. There is HMS Rodney or Nelson in the middle of the convoy, though...

The standoff attack is something I need to learn. Having not seen your example I sneaked right into the middle of the convoy despite the clear weather. It was 1940 so I managed to sneak out too, but I think that trying this in 1943 would be very risky indeed. The problem I have that at longer ranges 3 - 4 kilometers I start to have some misses with my torpedoes. I guess I'll have to keep practicing and on the other hand accept that the better the escorts get the more they are going to force me to shoot from farther away.
