so i was out patrolling the usual waters above ireland and my hydrophone officer reported some sound contacts heading into the irish seato the east. I quickly start to trail them and get to the edge of visual range to stalk the convoy and what do i see but a S class submarine in line with the convoy
![]() i have never seen one before and neither has my recognition manual. i click the ship thing and my manual just stares back it me saying well idk wtf it is ![]() the group are travelling at painfully slow 4 knots (probably from the submarine) in rough weather and i am all out of forward eels. maybe now it is worth getting HSIE's hardcore mod just for the wolfpack ![]() |

You can sink them I think they have their own section. But their pretty hard to hit

Once I sank one S-class from a convoy by sheer luck. A FAT torpedo missed my intended torpedo and hit the sub on it's second leg. I wouldn't have known that if my Captain's log hadn't revealed that to me
![]() Someone on the forum once said that the British sometimes escorted their convoys with submarines and even a battleship (against the German cruisers and armed raiders) so it's not that uncommon to see them in GWX. What is probably wrong though is that the subs and BB's are part of the convoy. I would suppose that in real life they would have kept a safer speed and moved as a task force close to the convoy, but not part of it - that is: an unrealistically easy target

Indeed
The sub would have been away from the flanks so if anything did attack the sub could come in and torpedo them. However the destroyer would have been a part of the convoy along with any battleships

The British did indeed have submarines and BB's in convoys, usually as protection against German raiders etc.
As a general rule they would shadow the convoy during the day from a distance easily made up in an emergency. When darkness fell they would sometimes go to the centre of the convoy where the merchants would afford protection. Or was it the other way round ![]() |

either way easy pickins for SH3. My only complaint is you cant sink em with shells. I must shot 130 or so into an S, and no dice. I didnt want to waste an eel for something with so low tonnage lol. Shoulda just torped it, had to in the end and I took about 30 hull damage in the fire fight. Just had to take out the other deck gun. Oh and another thing, they can use deck guns in all kinds of weather, and not have a problem.

The question is why would you bother with them. Aren't there more juicier targets in that convoy?
Also, if you are out of forward torpedoes, why not use the rear tubes? It saves you from having to do a turn around when they are fired. You might even be able to get safely away on the surface at flank-speed in the middle of the night. (which would be dependent on a lot of other factors too of course.)

well i am currently running around to get in front of them and shall hopefully get a decent kill. i dont plan on attacking it lol as we all know our main aim is to sink merchants not military ships although i have sunk a few big ones along the way

I must say that enemy ships could have a better AI. On the topic of my rear tubes I ussualy slink underneath the convoy to the otherside of it. Fire rear tubes then quickly turn the fornt tubes towards them and fire them at medium speed. This ussualy gets at least 3 ships.

i like to get right into the convoy and reek havoc among the ships, destroyers find it hard to get to you quickly and the only problem you can have is reloading times and being too close so safeties don't disengage. i am in a VII though so i will have to disable a big ship with one torpedo and let the convoy steam on and then pick her off once i reload
