Default What potatoes say about the state of US democracy

http://www.spiegel.de/international/...595-druck.html

Hits the nail on top, I would say.

And this is David Gergen, who has worked for Nixon and Reagan as PR manager, on that and why the US political system is dysfunctional by now.

Enemies of Ordinary People
Since the eruption of the financial crisis, paranoia has taken hold in American politics. Americans' faith in institutions has been shaken. The government has become the adversary of the citizens, and the elites the enemies of ordinary people.
Where's the paranoia in a statement of the obvious ? That is valid for every citizen of almost every nation.

Well, that's news to me. I suppose we all eat at least one cheeseburger a day, too? And we all wear Levi's and blast Bruce Springsteen all day long, too, right?

Just checked out the menu of a HS I attended, and here's the choice for today:

Daily dish: BBQ Chicken or Pork Sandwich
Sides: Broccoli or Broccoli Salad and Tator Tods ; Chilled and Fresh Fruit

- spelling error in the original (Source)

*Hannibal Smith voice* I love it when a cliché comes together!

I hope they won't get any repurcussions from crazy Bush-fans for offering Broccoli!

In defense of the Spiegel-article, I also hope you guys know that the points it makes about the state of congress and lobbyism are very valid statements.

Now now Mookie, that's a Speigel article. It has to be the pure unadulterated truth.

Potato is a part of every meal in my fammily and to be honest, I'm sooo sick and tired of potatoes right now

I'm guessing this is one of those politics thread turned food thread right.

Lets derail it some more. Any good recipees an alternatives to potatoes ???

How can one get tired of potatoes? You can fry them, grill them, bake them, mash them, smash them. So much variety, not even speaking of the hundreds of sorts there are with distinguished tastes.

You should also taste sweet potatoes one day - different from normal potatoes.

If my fammily would emigrate, Slovenia wouldn't have 61kg, but 35kg of potatoes per capita yearly.
There's tooooo much potatoes being eaten around me
