Default Torpedo Depths (TMO)

Hi all,
Does anyone know why my torpedoes always seem to have troubles with keeping depth? I set the depth to about a foot under the keel depth, but they end up going about 10ft past the keel.

Thanks in advance.

TMO models the missgivings of the early Mk14. Those torpedoes had faulty detonators and a steering gear that was not rigged for the torpedoes weight.
When you're setting the running depth, always set the depth about 10 feet above the keel level. This should do fine.

Alright, thanks. Most of the time, I've been doing port raiding at short ranges with torpedoes as shallow as possible. Went into Truk in May '42, found the Yamato and a carrier. Fired four torps at the Yamato at about 500 yards, got a circle-runner; ruined the fun when they started shooting at me

Yeah, circle runners are fun. At least you haven't been hit, happened to me once . Truk is something for emptying your stores, especially when you're having a Yamato there. This bulk drinks your torps without belching. I gave her twelve once, evenly spaced. All she did was wallowing a bit.

I got the Yama with 6 once ... catch her coming out of the Bungo ... that is fun.

gmuno is right the program simulates the historical faults of the fish... depth settings, premature detonations and duds.

I generally set mine ten feet shallow as well.

I did catch the Yamato once NW of Truk in one hell of a storm. I was surfaced within 500 yards and could not see a thing ... which was good because she got dem big O guns.

I used nothing but radar bearings to aim with ... it took 10 hits out of about 20 fish to finally sink her and cripple a light cruiser. I did not even know it was her till the report came in.

Even when the torps are working correctly, you'll want to set the torpedo depth to approximately 3.5 feet above keel.
