Firstly, I promise you that I have searched and searched literally (and I do mean literally) for hours on end for a solution to my problem, so if I have missed the answer I apologise now.
I have the steam version of SH5... It loads fine, but at every save game, either manual or automatic, the game saves, then CTD. From the reams of stuff I have read so far I am guessing it is something to do with the DRM when the game saves to server. I have seen solutions for non-steam versions of the game, but nothing for steam. I'll not waste space with my system details as the game works fine until a save is attempted (and I checked it meets all the requirements, which it does, easily). I open the game, and after loading I get the screen message that save games are synchronised to server, which I am guessing is the problem. I believe the DRM can be 'turned' off, but when I click on the Uplay tab it close the game and then tells me it doesn't recognise the user name (?)... If I press the register tab, it again tells me it doesn't recognise the user name. If anyone can give me a step by step solution to this Steam version problem I am having with SH5, I'll be your buddy for life. Many thanks. |

I can't say that I had that particular problem when I originally had the Steam version (bought the DVD version right after I found out how cheap it was), but I did have several other issues after the first install.
What fixed it was to uninstall it in Steam, then reinstall it. You might want to try that.

Thank you for the reply, Misha, and apologies for my slow acknowledgment.
Yeah, I tried all that, including the file verification and so on. All the usual. No, I am convinced the problem is with the save to server issue. If anyone can find me a solution to this issue I would let you marry my sister, if she wasn't so ugly ![]() It is truly driving me insane... which is a very short journey. |

So you have a registered account on Uplay but it won't let you login? Maybe it tries to save - game not registered to proper account/account not found - crash? The issue maybe your Uplay account. After creating an account I set mine to 'offline' permanently with no issues.
Being mostly hypothetical here, sorry. I can only suggest to take up the issue with Ubisoft support to fix your account. (If that is really the problem). Remember to provide Steam receipts, etc. to help prove your ownership. |

Hmmm...
I don't know if that's what you were describing as trying to do, but you might want to go to Settings in the UPlay launcher and uncheck save game synching as well as checking off "play offline." At least that way you can see if it really are the save attempts to the server crashing you. I don't think it is, but it's worth a try. Also, even though you switch off "save to server", your savegames will STILL be saved to your harddrive, so it's not like you can't save anymore.

Humm, well I have the steam version too and have had no issues what so ever....
![]() I have modded my SH5 to the hilt and still no errors....I do remember a time though when I first bought SH4 and it used to crash to the DT all the time I believe the issue was the Graphics card...But that's just my two cents worth... Happy hunting and I hope you sort it out soon.. Regards Nuke... |

Woo Hoo!
Ok, first of all fellas, thank you very much for taking the time to read and reply to my post.
The good news is I have finally solved the problem. My best guess is that my Uplay Launcher was corrupt. It was allowing the game to run but when I tried to save it would crash due to, I think, being unable to communicate with the cloud. Anyways, I was having one last desperate look at the Uplay site and I noticed the 'New for PC Uplay Thingy'. So I downloaded it, installed it, ran the game, got all giddy and excited because this time rather than loading straight from Steam the Uplay launcher came up, so I launched SH5, went and made a life-sized effigy of Clint Eastwood out of matchsticks whilst the game loaded, clicked on 'continue campaign', did a walking tour of all the Welsh Villages who's name begins with the letter 'L' whilst that loaded, tried to save the game, and, whoopie! No crash! Ok, now, after all this time and frustration, unpatriotic as it may be, the British are gonna suffer! Thanks again guys, I shall be sure to be checking back to read about these mods you mentioned. Regards, Jeff |
