Best Escape?

What are some your best escapes?

For me, two come to mind:

In the first Silent Hunter, I attacked a convoy at night. If you played that game, you’ll remember the destroyers were relentless. Nothing seemed to work to get away. Oxygen and batteries almost depleted.

Battle surfaced into the night ready to go down swinging. Climbed onto the bridge and several hundred yards away, saw that we were outside a circle of 7 Japanese destroyers taking turns making depth charge runs over what they thought was our position. Watched in awe for a few minutes and then crept away at 1/3 ahead.

The other one happened the other day. At night, penetrated the destroyer screen at periscope depth. Was almost ready to shoot when they must have detected my scope by radar because they started pinging. A quick sweep showed 3 destroyers charging in on me with a bone in their teeth. Had to quickly adjust the TDC and fired a spread in the convoy.

Crashed dived but the destroyers blanketed me on their first run. Significant flooding in the control room, damaged the batteries, hydrophones, diesels, and e-motors with a few injuries. Heard 3 detonations on the convoy. The DC crews managed to keep us afloat until I could eventually lose the destroyers.

Surfaced into the night and found ourselves alone. Closed the water-tight doors to the control room to contain the flooding that eventually went to 100%. Had never been damaged like that before (thanks IRAI). Couldn’t dive the rest of the night. Eventually stopped the flooding and limped back to port.

Obviously, I'll have to adjust my tactics if I want to make it to Oktoberfest. Prost!

Some fun.

In SH4 I had a bad run-in that should have sunk me and left me at about 5% hull integrity. As I recall I mistakenly thought that two merchant ships I attacked while surfaced were unarmed, but both had deck guns. I managed to get both of them, but not before my boat looked like swiss cheese...both scopes destroyed, batteries inoperable, external guns blown. A nice-sized splash would have sent me down. Obviously submerging was out of the question, but I managed to sneak back to port where I got yelled at for the shape the boat was in...they scrapped it and demoted me, giving me an S-Boat in its place.

For me it was escaping continuous air attacks (thanks IRAI).
The first attack caused heavy flooding and wrecked the pump - so I have to push forward at full speed but that was never enough to stop the sinking. I would have to blow emergency ballast and surface.
A few mins of the surface would see a new air attack - the cycle would then continue.

If this damage had been caused by escorts -
