Sacre bleu. I'm not sure I would even recommend SH5 for a low-end computer even in the stock version, based on my experiences with my old rig. But then again, I don't know just how "low" end your computer is.
Mine was a quad AMD Phenom 9850 BE with a GTX260, and it ran OK as long as I stayed away from harbors (with mods on). Anyway, I can't give you a whole "lite" mod soup, but I can give you a few hints: Try to not use mods that add objects in the sim world or increase detail and resolution. Also, if you're going to use OHII, and you should because at the very least it extends your sim to 1945, use the "lite" version with nothing but the added missions. But, most of all, don't be afraid to try the mods out, no matter what they are. Some of them may look like they'll draw a lot of resources but don't, and some may look very light, but aren't. It's all in the details. And if you're using JSGME, and you definitely SHOULD, disabling mods, adding mods, tweaking etc. is as easy as anything as long as you remember rule #1: Only modify your mod soup when in port. Yes, I know, a lot of mods don't need you to, but just to be on the safe side. One mod, other than OHII (even if it's the ultra-light version) that you simply HAVE to have is TDW's UI 6.9.0. All the others are great too, and by all means add as many as you can, my list is ridiculously long by now, but those two are absolute must haves. According to me, anyway. Addition: I should say, in all fairness, that the other User Interface mods available may be just what you're looking for as well. I just haven't tried them so I really can't say that they're "not as good" as TDW's 6.9.0. It's just that TDW's has every single thing I wanted from a user interface and then some. There are options in there that I'm not even using, but the beauty of it is that you can customize it, turn options on and off, tweak it just the way you like it, all in one mod. The one thing I WILL say, though, is that no matter what you DO want one of the UI mods, because the User Interface that comes with the sim is... Let's just say "worthless".

![]() Exactly. How low-end is "low-end"? Mine is truly low-end (seven years old and single-core) and won't run it at all. Well, it will fire up and run, but graphics glitches haunt it and "running" is optimistic.

Low end being at the minimum spec for the game, But I hear what your saying Sailor Steve, I have a Core i7-3960X new this year, but without a GPU to with it I might as well throw it out the window.
I doubt you will ever get your 7 year old computer to run SH5, but if you have a computer that meets the minimum specs your going to have a lag filled game, which can be mostly alleviated by mods. Hopefully |

If you had a low end machine with 4gb of memory and run XP Pro would it be advantageous to install Win 7 64bit?

There are some mods for very low end computers, including some that remove unnecessary in-game content, as well as some environment patches that improve the look of the game and can reduce the load on the processor (calm sea's Mod)
I will make a list and post them here, Another thing that can be done to improve performance is more on the side of utilizing Task Manager and IF your COMFORTABLE, Over Clocking (NOTE: Overclocking should only be done by those with strong knowledge of the subject AND are willing to risk potential Damage to their computers) As for Task manager right clicking on SH5.exe and setting the priority to a higher setting can slightly improve mouse response time, and changing the Affinity of all other running applications to the first Core and SH5 to the rest (not recommended on dual core Machines) |
