Shefex stands for "Sharp Edge Flight Experiment"
Starting from the north norwegian rocket base Andøya, new heat shield and cooling techniques for gliders entering the atmosphere were tested. SHEFEX II has absolved its test flight, reaching 11x sound speed going back to earth, withstanding 2000 degrees celsius at the fore edge. After being slowed down by the atmosphere's resistance, it landed via parachute and undamaged. The initial design had be proposed by Mr. Saenger in the 1960ies, but Junkers switched to producing heating devices again. Experiments and in-flight measurements were successful, however they still have to find it north of Spitsbergen, or so it seems .. http://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/w...-a-840413.html http://www.n-tv.de/wissen/Shefex-II-...le6536681.html edit: update, they found it, it's already aboard the ship.
