oh, hello there! (boom)

so i'm a sh5 noob working on the british supplies mission at the beginning of the campaign. i've had some really good luck and the info/tutorials on the site have helped a ton. here's my problem, though..

initially, with only two mods (Real Environment - Rev. 3 and TDW's fx mod) i had no issues. here's what i'm running now.

the problem is that the detection range for enemy shipping has dropped off to a few hundred meters, so that even while running on the surface in broad daylight in clear weather i am unable to see contacts until they are dangerously close. this has led to more than a few tense dives when escorts popped up out of nowhere at 1200m, but actually ramming an escort (after dropping out of time compression, the thing was so close that i didn't even have time to hit the x1 button..) was the last straw.

also, post modding i am having some issues controlling my dives. when i call for periscope depth it isn't unusual for the sub to drop down to 20m or more before resurfacing slowly to ~12, and every "dive" dive seems to be an uncontrollable crash dive until i give the "surface" command, at which point the dive levels off and i regain some kind of control over depth setting. (i have to leave the command on "surface" or "periscope depth" in order to retain this control, though.. if i switch back to the "dive" command it's crash dive time again..)

i'm guessing these are known issues but as is typical for most forums, the search function here is worthless. could anyone point me in the right direction for a fix? i'm just going to pull the mods til i can sort this out. thanks a bunch!

Ahoy Doktor
Good advise from BigReg. To add, You only have a few mods so this shouldn't be to hard to fix. . put all your environment mods together and watch for conflicts. Your hydrophone bug can easily be caused by mod conflicts.
FX update is a good idea however I suggest using TDW's Multiple UI mod with it:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...66093&page=594 (last page)
It will do so much for your game, I can't go into all the detail here as it gives you so many options, choices and patches.
Keep all your graphics mods together as well as gameplay mods.
One of the threads BigReg sent you is the "List your mod loadout order". This will give you some of the mods and the order that the players put them in. The UI's mod download contains some hydrophone fixs as well. It might very well help with the dive problem as it is a well documented bug. It happens for various reasons but can be fixed merely by either mods or patches. You are patched to 1.2 correct?
Try this and BigReg's suggestions and see if things improve.
Good Luck

heyas, thanks a bunch, i'll check out these threads. i knew they had to be around, just didn't find them

yep, i'm patched to 1.2.

just dl'd TDW's UI pack, i'd been avoiding UIs because the ones i'd tried were all made for much higher resolution than my poor computer can handle, hah.. i'll check it out though. i've seen enough pics to know that the stock UI is seriously lacking =p

yeah, the UI pack isn't going to work at 1024x768, when the UI comes up it's just an explosion of windows that i can't close, and the controls/gauges etc are gigantic. oh well, need a new vid card.

Hey Dok,
Sorry about that. Yeah, it's a drag to find a game you really like and then your box doesn't have quite enough to get it just right. Maybe a new card will do the trick. I hope that it will work with out your having to do any serious upgrading.
Cheers.

yeah, well, from what i've read here and how the game is behaving, i'm considering trying to find SH4 and maybe playing that instead, because it seems like a much better made game. i think i might have the sub bug again.. might as well explore that a bit.

I'm a big Fan of SH4 as well and I played a pretty good stack game with an HP laptop. I really loaded up the mods too. It lagged a bit but I had the "Game Fixes Only" mod loaded with some Graphic mods and it was pretty good. That PC wouldn't play any of the Supermods all that well but you may have better luck with those than I.
I love to go back to the Pacific theatre sometimes, I am really interested in the Fleet boats as much as the U-Boats and this series is perfect 'cause it let's me experiance a little of both.
Good Hunting.
