Another of the great master musicians has passed:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...xLU_story.html There are many like him (James Jamerson at Motown leaps to mind) who helped create the sounds of so many name artists and yet languished in the background. I remember seeing him backing up so many othe stars, standing there, doing his job, with a pipe clenched in his teeth (an, no, it was just a regular tobacco pipe) looking like some college professor who happened into a music gig. His distinctive playing belied his laid back, straight laced appearence. Along with his longtime friend, Steve Cropper, the sound of so many great hits came to life and live forever... Thanks, Duck, for all the great memories and sounds...RIP... ...

Dunn was the consummate professional. Understated and unflappable, he let the "stars" shine. He died in his sleep while on tour. Can't think of a better way to go out.

Had to post these clips:
Otis Redding at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967 backed up by Booker T. & the MG's (Duck Dunn on bass, Steve Cropper on Guitar) Part 1: Part 2: Along with James Brown at the TAMI Show, one of the great live performance captured on film... Again, Duck, thank you for your time with us... ...
