Default [REQ]Better Crew Animations/Inhuman AI behavior

The Submarine crew is the Silent Hunter games are unreal. They are not realistic because they can just stand there and never flinch from a shell from a shell hitting the deck or heading for cover. Why do they all magically disappear into thin air like ghosts through walls into the submarine. Whenever someone dies on the sub, they always lie in a fetal position.

Why do they always load a shell out of thin air into the deck gun? It seems like they never go to wherever they store shells on the boat and retrieve the shell and shove into the breach. They always reload out of thin air. Same with the AA gun. The Bofors gun always has a clip in it, even after you fire a whole clip. The crew never seem to flinch when the submarine dives. They always stay still in a freakish sort of way. The plates and all the ceramic stuff doesn't break apart at all. There is no galley in the game for the crew to go eat. The crew watch that's relieved never seems to use the hatches at all.

They always appear out of thin air when mounting the deck gun or AA gun. They never physically run out to their posts, but appear instantly like unreal right there physically instantly there out of thin air, manning the AA posts. The crew rarely moves, if at all. They just stare off into space, unflinching from the watch crew. They never say idle chit-chat about a girl back home or a card game or a Yankees game or a college moment from Annapolis.

Why are you always on a sub? Why can't you swim in the ocean and abandon ship? There should be a game where you can abandon ship and you swim for shore and be rescued or captured. If you do the 1x thing, it takes 3 weeks to get there. Why is the captain never a commissioned officer? Sub captains as you know, have to be commissioned at Annapolis to be there as a sub captain. What's German version of Annapolis for U-boat skippers, Herr Kaleuns?

I set Max Time Compression to 1x always. The time compression is difficult to control and halt when you press the line button on the keyboard. It feels like slowing down a 100 ton frieght train.

I'd like to be given the freedom of choice to swim. Why do the crew never physically run to their battle stations? They always get there like a ghost out of thin air.

Why are there are no firearms on a sub? Many instances of submariners carrying a Thompson submachine gun onboard in one footage or in Das Boot, a Walther P38, telling Johann to go back to his post when he'd had enough of combat and went nuts. The crew never flinches when depth charges explode. The damage model is unrealistic because depth charges don't destroy engines like that or periscopes. The sub floods too fast. You never see the flood waters on the sub. It sinks like a stone, instead of temporarily patching it up. One guy on the Submarines show on History Channel noted that when all other systems were destroyed, the TDC would still function. Submarines were built to endure pressure. Real life subs survived depth charge attacks that would have destroyed subs in SH4.

If a sub crew behaved the way the AI does, they'd all be branded insane. It'd be great if you could use a mic to talk to the crew in English or German and set the voice interaction language to these languages to talk to the AI crew. Boy, it would be nice to have a game like this in the future with speech recognition technology.

Is that really necessary when in port to say "ship spotted bearing 224, short range" when you're obviously in port with vessels that are obviously on your side and belong to you? Is that necessary? I think not because they're there and you know who they are anyway.

Or you could hear the crew cussing about being hit and utter swear words, if you want THAT kind of realism.

The crew behavior is unreal. I wanna see AI act human, like use the bathroom or something. Flinch when hit by DC. REAL life people flinch when DCs explode because the force of the explosion would knock you off your feet in a big hurry.

Nor are the AI stung by the spray of waves hitting them. The ship conning tower never has wave spray hitting it. The AI act like some freakishly inhuman Orwellian robot movie, rather than a real submarine crew. They never react to

They always never calmly tell the captain that there's a problem, always yelling like they don't have control of the situation, when in fact the AI like that would of course never last long in the military because they're always calm under pressure. They never approach the captain and tell him personally about it. The AI crew are anti-social types, (words of Oddball from Kelly's Heroes.) because they never talk to the captain about anything. The game is so impersonal. It drives you nuts from 3 weeks on that sub, (TC maxed out a 1x and it doesn't speed up because it set it that way.) when no one talks to you and the crew do the same thing over and over. They never get tired or sleep. There are no crew sleeping quarters on a sub. It never shows the nuts and bolts complications of operating a sub. I'd like to manually operate the dive planes. Each valve on a sub does something. The game seems buggy in places. I'm talking SH4 here.
I'd like to see the sailors play a card game, swap wild stories about subs, ships, girls, the lot.
Not this T rated PG-13 Disney crap in the game. Too much like war movies, instead of submarine crew realism. You know what I mean?

Please Oh pretty please make the crew act human so that it doesn't drive me nuts on my next voyage. Or does Ubistvoft (Ubistvoft. word play on Ubisoft, from Slavic ubistvo, meaning killing/murder, alluding to them killing the fun we enjoy from their games because of their ridiculous anti-piracy measures.) intentionally make it that way to drive you nuts so that you won't actually play it that long and drive you insane. Geez, I like some crew interaction for once. FOR ONCE!
