Howdy..
I'm heading for AM79 (SW of Ireland) and ask myself what the best route is... through the Channel (dangerous) or via the north of Schotland (takes more time and fuel). Startbase is Kiel / 12 nov 1940 After Scapa Flow the north isn't save either I gues.. ![]() Boompus

12 Nov, radar isn't a concern so if you can contrive to pass Dover at night or in a rain storm, I'd go for it. Stick to the southern coasts past Dover and you should be fine. Be patient. Submerge at ahead slow during the day, surface and sprint at night and during rain.
Dover passage on the surface only. The northern route is still safer, and the channel after radar is implemented is suicide.

I'd go North. Go steady so you don't waste fuel, and you never know, you may need to return to rearm before you even get to your assigned grid. Save an eel for your return.
Good luck whichever route you take. ![]()

Thanks for the advices. I think I'll get to the North (Ahead standard) I wonder if the real Kaleun did ask for such advice.

I'd like to think there was a standard order for transit from Germany to the Atlantic, somebody cleverererer than I shall probably come along soon and clarify.
Failing that, I'd like to think that the commanders talked to each other and gave little hints and tips amongst themselves. ![]()
