So once the u-boat gets the nice 360-degree spinning radar antenna up on the bridge, I'm guessing it didn't put out enough power to cook the bridge crew? Or did it help keep them warm when it was cold out?

Unless it's high on the periscope mast as with the US subs.
There is a radiation gap North and South of the antenna, but reflections are still bad!! |

If they got hungry, perhaps they put a piece of wurst on the antenna and had nice sizzling sausage to snack on!

Out of interest I looked up the frequency that u-boat radar used and depending on the type it was either 368 or 556 MHz. When you consider that modern analogue TV transmitters in the UK broadcast at around 474 MHz at much higher power, the crew on the u-boat were quite safe from being cooked alive!

During WW2 it was known that a does of radar radiation on the 'privates' made one sterile for a few days. I have heard of stories of the groundstation radar crews 'getting their dose' before hitting the town for the weekend.
