Default When do you call general quarters?

I only call general quarters when:
- I am using the deck gun
- I am surfaced, evading pursuers
- I have spent all my torps and I need to reload fast
- I have received damage

Are there other situations when you should call it?

Also, is there a difference in terms of noise level when Gen Q is active? in other words, does it make sense to have gen Q while at silent run?

Anytime you engage enemy ships, should call crew to GQ or if under attack and need to do more than dive.

Think of it this way: you should call it any time when you need your submarine working at maximum efficiency. You can even see that reflected in crew/compartment ratings - they will never be 100% unless you call battle stations.

Any time you are in combat, you should call battle stations, because you don't want to risk having your boat performing at less than 100%, simple as that.

It does not affect noise levels, nor should it. The only reason I would call it off is if I were in very prolonged combat and needed to rest my crew.

You won't actually lose much when making a simple torpedo attack without calling battle stations though. But as a precaution, it's a good idea.

The full command is "General Quarters, General Quarters, all hands man your battle stations." The British called this command "Action Stations."

It should be obvious that you call General Quarters any time you're about to go into combat. It really is that simple.

What Sailor Steve said!

Whether offensive or defensive combat situations arise, call the crew to General Quarters.
