With the tactical map (TAI) open you can use your mouse wheel to increase or decrease the magnification power of the TAI.

If you find that your sub is no longer visible on the TAI when you change powers the best way to find yourself quickly is to look in the lower left corner of the map and there you'll find a little triangle with a circle in it. Pressining this icon will immediately return your sub to the exact center of your map.

Regarding the meters vs. kilometers problem just remember that a one kilometer has a thousand meters and, for example, say you measure a distance with your plotting tools of 4,320 meters just move the decimal point to the left three spaces and you've got kilometers:

4,320 meters=4.32 kilometers

Everything said here about the tactical map applies also to the navigation (NAV map) map.
