Default Johnny Otis, R&B Legend Dies at Age 90

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...bd46ae177dc9a1

http://www.latimes.com/news/obituari...,2183487.story

A true pioneer and huge musical influence often overlooked by the general public. He used to have a weekly radio show here in Los Angeles on a public radio station and the good Reverend would play music that would be astonishing to some of the current 'geniuses' of modern "R&B". I used to hear some of his tracks growing up in San Francisco as a kid on local and "clear channel" stations (the old transistor under the pillow scheme), listening to the real roots of R&B and soul in the 50s and 60s. Along with Wolfman Jack on the radio, Johnny helped spread the gospel of R&B to my generation and to generations thereafter. Rest well, Reverend...

I listened to his radio show a few times just before I left L.A. I seem to recall him doing a live jam on certain nights with any player who was in town at the time sitting in.

Bye bye Johnny.

This is one of the songs I put on any game that allows to add music too.

From driving music for Grand Theft Auto, to stalking music for SH3, or sniping music for Fallout new Vegas. It fits.

90 years, good for him!

This is another number some people may not know was one of Johnny's first hits (he didn't write it, BTW, but he made it famous), but almost everyone has heard some version or other done by various artists:

Harlem Nocturne -
