Default Changing Periscope magnification

I'm trying to tweak my sub to have the attack scope have 1.5, 3, 6, 12 magnifications, instead of the 1.5, 6, 12 it has now. i've gone into the Camera.dat file in data/library/ and added the new setting in the optics of the attack periscope, but I still get the same 1.5, 6, 12 mag. when i restart the game. Do I have to edit elsewhere in this file or another file?

There's a hard coded scope graticule +-10 degrees which AFAIK we cannot mod.
If you change the scope magnification in the Cameras file you make these graticule markings 'unusable'.
I'm not sure of stock and other mods, but I'm sure the magnifications were all wrong to start with wrt the graticules.

You can do anything you want, but as long as you keep this in mind when doing measurements through the scope - ie: make a new set of measuring tables.

The hardcoded graticule will autoscale to the new field of view/zoom you set, it's only those added in mods via graphics which won't.

The easiest way to see if your zoom changes worked is to look at the number displayed in the field of view which indicated the power you are on ("1.5x", "6x", etc). Note that if you kept a backup of cameras.dat in the folder, the game somehow finds it and reads it instead of your new file (It seems to read the oldest file when it finds two, even if renamed), so you might actually be asuming that it worked while your changes didn't have any effect at all!
