Hello. I installed SH4 a few days ago, and I am still making the transition from SH3 and SH4. I haven't been able to find a button/hotkey to get a detailed weather report as I used to get in SH3 (wind speed, visibilty, precipitations).
So, my question is: How do I obtain a weather report in SH4? Using stock SH4, no mods installed. |

I'm not sure how stock does it as I went straight into TMO 2.2 with RSRDC. In there it can be found under the Misc commands, far right one, cloud with sun peeking over it. Hope this helps you.

I am playing SH4 v 1.5 with RFB/RSRDC and the keyboard shortcut for the weather report is Ctrl + W or a button under the map menu.

Even in stock, the weather report button should be found when you click the button for the Watch Officer, but if you go to your SH4 folder, then open up the Data folder, then the CFG folder, look for the Commands.cfg file, and open it with notepad or wordpad.
Click on Edit, then find for the open file. Type in weather in the search box, and click find or find next, whatever it says initially. You should find this command, [Cmd261] Name=Report_weather Ctxt=1 MnID=0x3F250006 Key0=0x57,c,"Ctrl+W" So, Ctrl+W should get you your weather report. But I haven't played a stock game in over 3 years. Like USS Drum said, "Get TMO", or any of the other supermods. Try them all, and figure out what works best for you. For ambience in the game, there is a ton of radio station mods with oldtime radio programs, and music of the era. Really cool to cruise around the Pacific and listan to Armed Forces Radio out of Hawaii, Midway, or Wollongong. Or NBC Radio out of San Francisco, or Radio Saigon, or Tokyo Rose on a Japanese station.

[Cmd261] Name=Report_weather Ctxt=1 MnID=0x3F250006 I'm in the middle of my first patrol. Would I ruin my savegame if I altered commands.cfg? OFFTOPIC (kind of): A thing that (sort of) annoyed me today was that when I reloaded my savegame, the submarine was stopped. I ordered Ahead 2/3 and activated TC; then I went to the bathroom. When I returned, I found my submarine 'parked' in an island. I had to reload the savegame, order Ahead 2/3, draw a randow waypoint on the map and order "follow plotted course". At least it didn't ruin my day. |

Just to be on the safe side, I would wait until I'm back at home port. That way, there's no guesswork. You can do as you wish then, without the worry of messing something up.
On your save game, it's a bug from the original, but when you save and exit with a plotted course, the waypoint, and the order to return, or continue the plotted course will lead to engine shutdown. Go to the Navigator button, and click the button to plot a course. You don't have to add any waypoints, just set the cursor on your last waypoint so it highights, and left click, once or twice, until the OOD answers, following plotted course. Something in the savegame erases the plotted waypoint memory left on the map. So even though the waypoints are still there, the AI doesn't see them, and they need something to reactivate them to follow them. Saves you the time of having to replot your intended course.

Indeed... what I did after reloading my savegame was adding a random waypoint to my plotted course, and when I was following the plotted course, I deleted the last waypoint. What bothered me is that turning on the engines and following the waypoints was done automatically in SH3. Anyways... it's not a big issue.
USS Pollack reporting. Thanks for your help, guys! |
