French move to ban prostitution by punishing clients

French anti-prostitution campaigners have become increasingly vocal.

France's parliament is to debate abolishing prostitution through a crackdown which would criminalise payment for sex.

The National Assembly will vote on a symbolic resolution drafted by a cross-party commission which, if successful, will be followed by a bill in January.The resolution urges abolition at a time when "prostitution seems to be becoming routine in Europe".Some campaigners reject the bill, advocating prostitutes' rights instead.Around 20,000 people are believed to be working as prostitutes in France.France has been committed to abolishing the practice in principle since 1960 but the MPs behind the resolution want this stance to be "proclaimed loud and strong".The criminalisation of clients is "the best way to see prostitution reduced in France, given that all the countries that have regulated this activity have seen an increase", the commission has argued.

1999, the Swedish government brought in similar legislation to criminalise the buying of sex, while decriminalising its sale.

The whole issue of prostitution is a complicated one, just like the control of certain drugs. Both can be used without any consequences to the public, and by choice from all the parties involved. On the other hand, both are tied up in the black market and organized crime with all their nasty consequences, including human trafficking and other terrible stuff.

The real problem, from my perspective, is that states always want to take on drugs and prostitution, but don't want to take on organized crime - perhaps for ulterior motives, because after all the shadow economy and politics are not all that separate from their public counterparts. So IMO both the 'war on drugs' and 'war on prostitution' that target the on-the-street dealers/prostitutes and their clients are massively misguided. They'll never succeed and in fact will only end up ruining lives of more people - people who maybe weren't ruining anyone's life in the first place by engaging in prostitution or drugs by conscious choice. On the other hand, these wars shoot up the prices of drugs and prostitutes services, which benefit mobsters and force prostitutes and drug users alike to turn to forces outside the law to satisfy their needs.

Just as with drugs, I don't think outlawing prostitution will ever actually eliminate prostitution.

Buying sex is low, the activity is in most cases very grossly criminalized, no matter in which part of the globe you are in, the worse it is in Asia, Latin America and Africa .. and it involves major mental illnesses, for those who perform "work".

By extension, so you'll pay, of course, that is, indirectly, through which you say air travel, jewelry drinks, etc. .. then it costs on your credit card, but this article is about a change in the law for purposes of prostitution, and how many citizens can afford to go to,Tiffany Jewellery to give away?
