US general in Afghanistan fired!

I have the suspicion, since he is not the first general getting fired there over verbal comments, that generals choose such comments as a last means of getting relieved from an undefendable post.

How undefendable it is you see in that you get fired when speaking out the obvious truth. I think the general is right in his assessments.

I new two BW officers who were in Afghanistan some years ago. If this general gets fired for his comments, those two would have gotten hanged for what they had to say in private.

Agree. It is a case of the man on the ground, knowing more than the politicians, desk monkeys, and beauricrats who infest the pentagon.

Maybe if less "political appointments" were in charge up top we would know when something was unwinnable.

I want back Stormin Norman. He knew how to kick butt, and get the heck out.

Yeah, I will be crying myself to sleep worrying about an O-8 with 31 years in.

Retirement pay of about $9500 per month with a 77.5% cap will give him a monthly retirement income of about $7,400 (before federal taxes). That's almost $90K per year just for breathing.

Add on to that the inevitable "consulting" job he will get and he won't be hurting much.

Gen John Allen described the two countries as "solid", adding: "The Afghan people are an honourable people, and comments such as these will not keep us from accomplishing our most critical and shared mission - bringing about a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan."

General Allen, don't make such obvious lies.

"You think that America has roads paved in gold, everybody lives in Hollywood," he said.

In comparison to Afghanistan, this is at least 99.99% true.
