If this is the two part drama based on what happen, I found it alright but far too long.

Read that story from one of the books I have, same book also mention of the captain of a Japanese destroyer who rescued US sailors and ordered his crew to treat them well. A documentary came out after the war interviewing the sailors. One of a British sailor the only survivor of his ship that was sunk by a uboat, they pulled him out of the sea covered in oil cleaned him up gave him something to eat, packet of cigarettes then sent him on his way in a liferaft, they weren't far off from the English coast. He thought he was a goner when he saw the uboat surface from the propaganda going round back then and couldn't believe they wanted to help him. No prisoners were allowed on Uboats to be taken back to Germany but that didn't stop some from helping the sailors before sending them on their way.

The TV station has a so-called mediathek where they set up most of the shows they broadcasted, for seven days. If Laconia is part of that, it should be there from tomorrow on, I will check tomorrow, and if Yes, I will let you know.

I just do not know if it can be accessed from outside Germany, so wait with the hoorays.

I know that the german made every movie into german speak.

But this historical movie-they should have tried to make the people talk their own language.

Brittish-german subtitle
German
Italian-german subtitle

That is totally untypical for movies and TV in Germany. We also dubb almost all foreign language movies.

And I wouldn'T want to have it any different. Occasionally I watch something in original English sound version. But having written subtitles to me is the worst of all options. It ruins the overall experience.

May be a German typicality. But on the other hand: dubbing is done in German studios much better than anywhere else in the world. I knew an American family in Berlin over 20 years ago who said they preferred some of the German speakers of English and American actors over the original voices!

On rare instances, though, they mess up the translation. Linear translation often is not the best way to go.

I grow up with german television. So for me it's some kind of natural to see the actors talking german.

But this movie was some kind of a dramadocumentary and not some action movie.

Bout you next comment.

Just write something in this thread a few hours before part 2 start. I have ARD HD.(and the original ARD).

Hello,
it would be nice to choose from what you want to hear and see. Since it's a british-german co-production (the Laconia captain was way cool in a positive way, and the actor played it really well) there must be the english text - just wonder whether there's an internet access to the british-spoken version ..

B.t.w. the second part is being broadcasted today at 20.15, again in the ARD (1st channel)

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish
