Default ASDIC deployment?

It's Summer of 1940 and I'm hanging around Dunkirk (GWX3, btw). I have 2 destroyers coming out of Dunkirk, a C&D Class in the lead and a V&W behind. When I highlight the C&D on the map, it does not have an ASDIC range dashed line indicated...only the longer range hydrophone. Should I believe the C&D does not have ASDIC capabilities?

The C&D Class is not one of the GWX modded ships, according to the GWX manual, so I went looking in the SH3 documentation and museum for info on what various warships had for detection equipment...no luck there. I was a bit disappointed that the museum did not supply more info in this regard?

So...should I kill the V&W first, trusting that the C&D of this era can't ping me?

I would take it out which was best, without regard to active sonar,

The C&D Class does in fact have ASDIC fitted so if you feel you must attack two greyhounds of the sea I'd suggest you take that class out first.

Be advised, both classes are also fitted with depth charges and in the hands of a competent crew (your gamble) I'd probably err on the side of staying well clear of them.

Thanks Jim. How do you explain the lack of an ASDIC range indicated for the C&D when highlighted on the nav map...it is there for the V&W? (asks Vic...looking for any little advantage ). I thought, maybe, they didn't have it installed in 1940...on this one warship that I'm in contact with. There is, of course, one way to find out (I don't adhere to the DiD theory of realism).

Give me about 15 minutes and I'll rig up a test.

Okay...ran a test in 1940 and you are correct, the C&D was without Asdic so tested in Jan 43 and ASDIC was fitted.

The question I'm asking myself is....was ASDIC fitted dependant on date or skill level of crew?

I honestly can't remember right now but if you are intent on knowing let me know and I'll look into the matter further.
