Default Asterisk swearing

From the rules section

This also includes fully asterisked out words as I do not know if you did it, or the forum filter did.

You know I can fully comprehend and understand the forum rules governing the use of asterisks in certain words. Many times a well placed asterisk leaves nothing to the readers imagination as to the true spelling and meaning of the word. But there appears to be something new to the forum rules here. Forgive me for inquiring but I have to ask. What is a 'fully asterisked out word'? Are you saying that if I type as an exclamation ******* or @#&^%# I will recieve an infraction for being vulgar and offensive?

Many times a conversation needs some kind of addtional exclamation to drive home a point. These types of non words leave everything to the imagination of the reader since 'fully asterisked out words' are not words nor do they have any specific meaning.

just wondering

I thought you can use any world as long as it *****-ed.
Its like sort of US TV where they can show someone "beep" every second world and blur his mouth.
You know what he says (unless very creative)but cant hear that-WOW.
Just local culture lol.

I only want to ask one thing: What exactly is the purpose of the profanity filter,
if it is not there to filter out the bad words?

The rules quite obviously state that you are not to circumvent the filter by
using asterisk (f.e. b*obs). Nothing says one can't say **** and it doesn't
need to say, as such word is automatically censored. What the reader makes
the 4*'s to mean, is up to him/her.

Im guilty of the asterick method I thought if I type the astericks instead of the word I'm cleared from any swearing cause I didn't actually swear just pretended too but at the time I really wanted too.

I guess Neal feels this isn't TV. Nothing against you MH or Rockstar and not trying to be funny.

I also guess Neal feels, Give an inch and, many miles will be taken.

And I'm not going to second guess Neal. No pun intended.

I hope all take it seriously and hope some Vacations don't start unexpectedly.

Sadly we have some here that have to be hit over the head and\or have Extended Leave. It will happen but,

Hope Not.

No big deal.
I assume that it is to prevent this forum from turning into swear world mayhem.
Still posting some funny picture should not be big deal.

Don't be such a nazis

On a side but related topic what about certain links. A few weeks ago there was a thread where people where showing links to vids and if they did have anything language or "some might not want to see this" subject matter they gave a warning. What is the rule on this then?Is that a no go or so long as one posts a clear warning before a link is it allowed?

I am just wondering because that can cover alot of things for example what if someone posts a topic about WWII and they link to a video that shows dead bodies or gore?

Obviously I have always assumed that linking to pornographic materiel is not allowed.

Well as I mentioned above the written forum rules make sense and frankly should be abided by. But 'fully asterisked words' are not a forum rule and they aren't even words. So I was wondering how that applied to us is all.

It's his forum, his rules. I am also fully aware freedom of speech does NOT apply here as protestors can leave and go somewhere else if they don't like it. But asterisks? Sounds like the thought police are concerning themselves with my imagination which can be at times very far from reality.

OK I guess it is pretty clear on my question. I think some of the asterisk thing boils down to people perhaps only having read the rules once or twice when they joined(if they did then). All though I am sure some do blatantly violate the rules. I did not really think of the swear words rule until Sailor Steve reminded me the other day after I posted ver batium what the folks that live near me holler out when they get drunk and shoot their guns.

Yes and I have been too. But it is the substituting of letters with asterisks in certain words thats a problem. Doing it in such a way that leaves nothing to the imagination as to what it is and means. And I believe the forum rules address that.

I was just wonder what 'fully asterisked word' is? And why it would be considered vulgar and offensive?

**** could mean lots of things. That to me is not profanity, it leaves it up to the reader's imagination, how and IF they want to use that 'mysterious, oh my, what word could it be' in the context of the sentence.
I'm not arguing with the rules or regulations, they are there for a reason, I totally understand that.
I guess where the mods and Neal is coming from is from a contextual point of view.

So if I type Nikimcbee likes ******** Smurfette. Those same asterisks I just used in a family fun kind of way could be considered offensive if I used them when talking of Dowly and his ferret?
