Default Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple; Tim Cook named CEO

The visionary CEO of Apple, Inc. who catapulted an also-ran computer company into America's second most valuable concern over the last two decades, resigned his post Wednesday.
Jobs, who has been long beset with health problems, will likely be replaced by Tim Cook, the company's chief operating officer, Bloomberg News reported.

The company's board of directors is yet to confirm Cook as Jobs' replacement, but the ex-CEO recommended that Cook take the reigns following his departure, Bloomberg reported.

Not surprising for a Hearst paper...

Hope we don't hear about mass suicide by the Jobs acolytes a la Jonestown...

Geez more proof of how stupid people and the stock market is. MS has done well for itself since Bill Gates stepped down-Windows 7 is by far the best Windows they have ever made-and many say the Win7 os for smartphones is very good. That's with Steve Balmer in charge.

Tim Cook has been running things for awhile-the whole upper management were picked by Steve Jobs-and I'm sure a succession plan was in the works ever since he fell ill. Anyway like any company the team is the thing. I always liked the Woz anyway.

''Cook promises to improve Apple turnover''.

I think the word "resign" is not exactly appropriate. It is more like he is retiring with several cubic buttloads of money and stock options.

To me resign implies that he would have to look for another job. The only job he will have now is trying to figure out how to spend all his money.

Personally, I don't blame him. With his health issues, I would retire too.

Best of luck to him.

Besides all the stock market crap and Apple guru's did anyone take a look at Jobs? The guy has suffered and is suffering with major medical issues. He is relatively young guy who, from the looks of it, will not be able to enjoy the fruits of his labor much longer.

Personally I feel for Jobs. May he find the time and ability to deal with his health issues.

As for Apple - pfft. Its an over-rated company that the artsy crowd loves just because its "different". To its credit, it HAS been innovative at times. At least it had the sense to stop focusing on the PC world and instead move into mobile devices. Its innovation is much stronger in that market. It will continue to be an also ran in the PC world.

Yes, I know someone will yell about the Ipad/Ipad2. A web surfing, text editing really compact netbook running a funky OS isn't (and hasn't) made Apple a force in the PC market. If Apple wants to ever compete in that market (and they shouldn't), they are going to have to drop their proprietary mindset. It has hurt them in the mobile app category as well, and you would think that the lesson would have been learned from the years in the PC market.

Apple - overpriced junk that artists starve to own....
Makes no sense....
