SA Radar Quits Working

I relied heavily on my surface-to-air radar to keep me aprised of approaching Japanese aircraft during my first half-dozen patrols. At that point I had enough points to purchase surface radar. Wonderful, now I'm covered high and low, thought I. But now my SA radar appears not to be working. I've been dive-bombed twice on patrol 7 by planes that appeared overhead with no prior warning. Luckily their aim was bad, and I'm still afloat. What's wrong here?

Yeah, willshake, those patrol planes 'will shake' you.

You don't really give a lot of information to draw any solid conclusion about your problem. I'll assume for the moment that you're playing the "stock" version of the game and that you're using the latest version 1.5 (Gold Edition w/U-Boat expansion pack). I'll also assume that you haven't recently received a new sub or any major modifications to it (since you mention your first half dozen patrols).

Sometimes (in game) my radar exhibits a dead spot at the stern. I correct this, when applicable, by turning my boat slightly in compensation for this blind spot. Also, some of the smaller planes (since you didn't mention the types of planes that attacked you) are harder to pick up (especially at low altitude) than larger planes. For the time being, I'll assume that your radar is working fine and it was just one of those quirks of war.

I had the exact same issue when i started out playing. Going to 1.5 fixed it for me in the end, but nothing else i did seemed to shake it =(
