WASHINGTON In just a few days, the fast-rising Republican star Michele Bachmann made two blunders:
- She cried "let's celebrate Elvis' birthday," Aug. 16 that, in fact, Elvis's death.
- She warned fellow countrymen to the threat from the Soviet Union 20 years after the Communist empire's disintegration.




Last Saturday won the congress woman from Minnesota in a non-binding vote in Iowa, where the first showdown of the presidential election campaign in 2012 will take place. Bachmann has made;strong emit thus equated with opinion-leading Mitt Romney and newcomer Rick Perry. That some opinions on several issues, such as slavery and homosexuality, differs somewhat from the American people at large were forgotten.

President Barack Obama said the other day that Perry's threat to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, whose monetary policies he compared with treason, was that Perry was new in the game and he will learn what to say and not say.

OMG - she screwed up a date regarding a dead fat singer. That should disqualify her from seeking the presidency!

Of course, not knowing important dates about Elvis is FAR more important to being able to run this country than knowing other facts, like how many states there are, perhaps?

As far as Russia being a threat to the US - where do you think all the nukes they had went? Think a few may still be pointed our way? Think maybe we should be concerned that some whackjob group may get their hands on some bad mojo? Nuclear smuggling exists in Russia. Have a quick read....

Of course, the Russian support of regimes like Iran doesn't exactly put them on "our" side of the table on a lot of issues, now does it. I could go on and on - but it probably wouldn't matter since facts don't bear weight when its more fun to make fun of someone you disagree with politically.

Regarding nuclear weapons smuggling from "some" Eastern Bloc countries are well known ... but the moment I can not see an element of risk(Aside from the terrorists who smuggle uranium for other purposes) ... only time will tell,however it still a cat and mouse game.

I can understand not knowing Elvis birth or death dates (I don't know them, not even a years) but still believing that Soviet Union exists? As president you are expected to also take care of foreign politics. Knowing currently existing super and major powers is a basic thing that president should know.

One of my teachers in high school kept referring to Russia as "The Soviet Union". It's likely more about the mindset than not knowing the facts. Well, at least in his case it was.
