http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...estingId=15768 Getting it to run will probably be no walk in the park, so better be ready to ask advice from some Linux support forum. I'm sure there will be lots of people who'll help you out, if need be, but it does seem like most people in this forum use Windows. If I was any younger I would probably be trying to use Linux as well, but as most of my PC time is now on spent gaming, I don't have the energy to learn the stuff I would need to know to get the games working - for me it's enough of a hassle trying to get games like SH3 or Il-2 working in Windows 7 ![]() ![]()

I used to be a Linux fan, ran three different OSs, then realized:
unfortunately, if Linus had anything to offer that was a real threat to windows, It would have been out by now ![]() But! If I recall, I ran into someone recently who runs SH3 on wine, lemme dig around tomorrow and see if I can't find them ![]() Hang in there, bro! ![]()

Ran as fast as it did on the WinXP side of my box, but graphics were not as good due to limited support for the drivers under Wine. Main graphics problem was that smoke/fire/spray did not show up under some circumstances. I understand there's a fix for that if you custom-compile Wine.

If you look at autorun.inf (a text file) it will tell you what file autorun wants to execute, just run that file directly for the same result. executing a Win32 command on my distro (Slackware 13) automatically passes that command off to Wine. Can't say how it's done in Mint. Also, I was running the version of SHIII under linux that I had already installed on my Windows partition. I didn't try to install it under Linux. winehq (Sublynx's link above) is the go-to place for advice and accounts. I guess I'll revise my assessment from "no futzing about" to "some futzing about, but not much - for Linux".

Yeah, I think of my WinXP partition as my game console.

I run SH3 under wine on Fedora 15 quite successfully. I even added GWX3 Gold and SH3 Commander, which all run fine. It didn't take all that much special effort, if I remember correctly. I can't check now because I'm at work but I'll get back to you when I am home. As to the no smoke and no visible fire, yes there is a bug with that.

I promised to get back to this thread, so here it is. I checked what I did to get it to work and I was surprised at how little effort it took, really.
There are two glitches which are annoying, but I can live with them. YMMV:

![]() ![]() And thanks for the tip on SH-Commander! ![]() There is even a fix for the smoke issue, If you're willing to alter some values in the Wine source code and recompile. Love open source!

![]() Plus, I've read that the patch has produced different results for different people, so I thought I'd not mention it. |

For those interested, I wrote up a little "how to" on how to apply the patch for the wine source code and then compile wine yourself so you get fire, smoke and spray effects in wine under Linux.
You can find it here: http://beris.nl/jb/?p=306
