Ok here's the problem, all loads and runs ok, I can save and reload from saves with no problem. But when my rig is shut down for more than a few hours, it starts, I load my career, then I get the error screen where you have either the choice to search o/l and close the program or just close the program immediately ! This is bugging the hell out of me, as all save / reloads work fine if I only shut down for an hour or so. All saves are made using the recommended ways, ie. no ships or land in sight, tc off etc.

I'm emploring you all shipmates, has anyone got any ideas wth is going on with my saves?

Any and all help as always much appreciated.

Best regards.

Sorry M but I've never experienced or heard of this phenonema before

It does sound like something is needed that is in your cache and is being emptied/deleted when you close your system down.

If you have an old, self patched, copy with Starforce, upgrade to a newer verssion, without Starforce.
It'll run, until Windows finds Starforce, and disallows it.

Hope the problem is that simple. Good luck.

If only Snestorm, the copy I have is already patched to 1.4b and starforce free. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Best regards.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the input mate, I never thought of that. I'm guessing that won't be software related tho, ie AV etc. Else it would happen everytime I shut the rig down. You agree mate?

Best regards.

I still suspect what I posted earlier...have you performed the PITA reinstallation?

A quick method would be to put a new installation onto a separate partition or rename a new installation for example 'GWX3b'.

I WOULD NOT cut and paste from the problematic installation because you would be simply duplicating whatever the problem is.

Yup tried that Jim, in fact I've always installed on a seperate hdd to my system, however out of desperation I tried installing to my c: ((outside *:/program files x86/ubi/blah) although that shouldn't make a ifference as I have UAC off), this doesn't seem to have made any difference. Re a PITA install, have always done it this way mate, kinda reminds you of the falcon4 dance don't it

I've tried a couple of experiments tonight, made several saves with gwx plus all my mods installed, now I have to give it the dreaded 24 hour wait and see what happens. I will report back

Thanks for the help and moral support Jim.

Best regards.

I know there were multiple reports of issues when using TheDarkWraith_DC_Water_Disturbance_v4_0_SH3
and someone - I think it was Stiebler - did some testing and determined that there was a problem with corrupted saved games while using that mod. He pretty much narrowed it down to that mod in particular. There was a discussion about it in the Mods Workshop forum I think but I don't know if it was a separate thread or just came up in a general "saved games CTD please help" thread like we get from time to time.

However I don't recall it being a question of how long a system was shut down in between saving and reloading, or of saves working one time and then CTDing the next.

All things considered, if you're going to start disabling mods to try and find the problem I'd certainly start with that one since it is known to cause a problem with saved games once something happens in the course of playing that activates whatever effect it creates.

Thanks frau, I'll certainly give that a try

Great advice...

Update

Hi fellow Kaleuns,

This is just an early update to let those who helped know how things are going.

Sailed from Wilhelmshaven Aug 1 1939 in my VIIB, with orders to patrol grid BF17.

Ran sea trials of varying depths and speeds, and several TC settings

Returned home Aug 21.

So far I have saved 6 times and all have reloaded without errors. This includes 2 instances with my rig turned off for 24 hours. At the moment I haven't engaged the enemy, so far, so good ! All this with my mod list unaltered. More tests and if all is well I shall post what I am begining to suspect was the problem.

More updates after war commences.

Many, many thanks to Jim and frau for trying to ease my long suffering problem.

Kudos Kaleuns

Best regards.

Just started a new thread.
I wonder if I'm following in your footsteps, with the same problem.
My saves load. My next patrol loading is interupted by the Windows Error Box.

Thank you, that's really useful information.

Last week I did the most successful convoy attack I have ever done in this game.
I found a slow convoy at night in my IXB and over the course of about five hours managed to sink six or seven ships. Most of them were big suckers too. It was absolutely awesome, lots of fun.
Then yesterday - bang, my save won't load. I am so PO'd about this.

So I've completely uninstalled SH3 and Commander, and done a registry clean. Going to reinstall this morning.

I'll definitely leave out the Water disturbance mod this time, thanks for the info

I ran a number of test under 'ideal' save conditions and I couldn't load at all with the DC mod enabled. Now, (with it removed from the mix), I can save underwater right next to a convoy and reload without any issues at all.
