Default 6th of June 1944 ''D-Day''

To all the Allied Nations who challenged the Atlantic wall and fought to liberate Europe by defeating the Nazi Regime.

And also to all who have fallen that day on both sides.

May we never forget.

I'm not against the remembering of such great events.

But FFS, what's the purpose of looking backward EVERY SINGLE YEAR at the same date ?
Don't we hear about war enough at tv every single day actually ? Or is it just to legitimize what's being done these days in the Mediterranean/Middle East ?

Looks like it's fashionable nowadays to play the sheep toeing the all hail the US line. I'd not do that even if I got paid to do so !

We're commemorating an Allied effort. Of the landing five beaches, two were British, one Canadian. You also have Poles, Belgians, Dutch, Czechs and I believe some French under Leclerc showed up eventually too.

Frankly I think it's become more fashionable for a comfortable, blasé world to denigrate the moment.

In any case Salute!

Oh ! And where did that take place ?

In France ? Where's that country ?
Thanks teacher, I had never heard of that.

Seriously , if you read my post above, you'll understand I'm not against the remembering of such an event, but more against its recurrence. We may be humble in here, but we don't go celebrating the liberation of the Elsass-Lothringen territory each and every year, some are just busy enough not to care about that any more, period.

Geez Alex, we are on a website dedicated to a very specific type of military simulation-some present day but mostly involving WWII so it's normal we note these dates. You think the mainstream media note these anymore, d-day maybe but every year less and less as more of the vets pass on. As it should be. We are different form the general population though. Slightly nuttier to start.

Because if people choose to commemorate a particular event that happened on a particular day, it is only natural to do so on the anniversary of that day, which - the concept of "anniversary" being what it is - comes around every single year on the same date.

One might just as well ask, what's the purpose of celebrating a birthday every single year at the same date.
