Default This application has failed to start because d3dx9_32.dll was not found.

If you get this message when you try to start up the game: This application has failed to start because d3dx9_32.dll was not found.

It is simply because your Direct X 9 is out-of-date

Please install the Direct X 9 December 2006 version found on your retail Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific. The problem will no longer occur.

Would be cool if you made this a stickie, already had one person posting this problem in ubi forums. And just now there are probably hundreds rushing to the store to buy the game, many of them with a out-of-date direct x 9

Had the same thing happen to me. Fixed it by going into the SH4 CD (right click on it in Winblows explorer and click open). then go into the DirectX folder and click on the setup.exe... it will install any missing or outdated files.

Oh and btw...I did have Dx9c already installed....

Agree...needs to be a sticky.

My DirectX was not out of date, but I elected not to run the SHIV update and got the same error. Basically running their install of DirectX is not optional.

There is a better way of dealing with this problem that I came up with. (and incedentally it comes up if you're using Vista with DX10 as well)

The workaround?

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?d3dx9_32

Go there. Download the D3dx9.dll file and copy it into your Windows\System folder.

It will now work.

If you're using Vista with DX10 (it's out?! wtf?! didn't know that.) I suppose. Otherwise I would rather rely on the DX9 update included on the CD and just let the installer update files as necessary. Way better than randomly grabbing one file and just adding it your system

Vista has been out since Septemeber and DX10 is the lowest you can go with it and it's shipped with DX10. SH4 will return the .dll error even though DX10 is superior in every way to DX9. Thus the .dll trick works.
