A Year at War

Spc. Michael Gannon narrates a video he captured on a helmet camera during a mission in Afghanistan.

Thirty thousand American soldiers are taking part in the Afghanistan surge. Here are the stories of the men and women of the First Battalion, 87th Infantry of the 10th Mountain Division. Over their yearlong deployment, The New York Times follows their journey.

Vendor you really need to start putting your article quotes in quotes.

Also, FYI there are no women in the 1st of the 87th Infantry.

I watched that video and was like wow, just wow and then out of nowhere at the end I read the text and it says several received the medal of honor including name I know all to well. Jeremiah Pulaski. At the end of the video he is the last man hugged. Small world, for those that don't remember my association with Jeremiah and his sad fate in a shootout with the Phoenix police dept just 2 months ago I refer you here

Yea its just odd that out of the thousands and thousands of troops he ended up in this random video. The world seems so much smaller now. I had not known that he won the silver star but I did know that he was in the thick of it both in Iraq and Afghanistan and thats where he preferred to be.

Sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately it's a sad byproduct of every war that's been fought. We've gotten a lot better at recognizing and treating the problem but as your friend shows we still have a lot to learn about taking the fight out of the soldier when we send the soldier home from the fight.

Thanks August. The human psyche is an odd thing when a man can go from a hero to an attempted murderer in as many months. I did find out why he shot that man outside the bar that night. Apparently as the story goes Jeremiah had been drinking heavily and was leaving the bar with an Army buddy he hadn't seen since bootcamp (They grew up together too) when a young man joined in their conversation. The victim stated he wanted to join the Marine's because they were the best and a rivalry argument broke out that ended with a .45 cal. bullet in the victim's neck.
