Heads up, PlayStation Network users

Apparently, the "outage" was only the beginning of the bad news:

May want to take ameliorative measures now if you linked any credit cards with your PlayStation and/or Qriocity accounts.

The reason I never bought a PS3 is because I wasn't too convinced about the safety of card transactions etc... I know it's going to suck for everyone who has had their accounts hacked. It is an absolute travesty, just the fact that I didn't go with Sony for this reason, and it's turned out I was right. I'm not laughing at the people who have lost money, accounts and other things through this, it was merely a gut response to me being right about such things. Though I'm sure I wouldn't be laughing if they managed to do the same with PC or X-Box 360.
I just have a sick sense of humour.

It does indeed suck for those whose accounts might or might not have had credit card information stolen from them. Good thing the last time I paid for anything on the PSN, it was with a now expired credit card.

Makes you hope the security people at Valve who work with Steam are earning their keep. Millions of people would be affected if that information were ever stolen.

Me too. I'm safe, but this is very irritating. But, you get what you pay for, free service = bad service.

Glad i never splurged on the Playstation Plus, that'd be a waste now.

"We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network," Sony said in a blog post Tuesday.
Just wondering how long they knew about this, and why it took them so long to go public?

Personally I'm in the clear, but for those with credit card numbers floating around I'm sure they'd like to know as soon as possible.

Well, isn't it necessary for purchase or grab money from the card to have the CSC code of the card to get authorization? which I presume isn't or may not be saved by any online store as far I can recall.

as for Sony

Sorry but I don't think this is good enough...

If credit card numbers are potentially compromised, you have to notify the cardholders a.s.a.p.

Any way you spin it, this is a major fail for Sony.

Yeah, I can't see this being spun any other way, but then again, I'm not being paid to spin it, so...

I don't update my ps3 no more. Nor do I connect it to the net. Sony can blow me if they think they're going to get my credit card info. I saw that coming 2 years ago when the sent me the policy update. I returned them with a big fat no way!.. I closed my registration.. FYI I didn't use any real information.. all bogus.. hehe...

Xbox is heading the same way no? or is it there already?
