So this is what hell is like?

Finally landed a job in this chaotic economy after 8 months being laid off.
I have allot of apartment maintenance experience and landed an interview with a respectable company.

The interview went great with one exception. Because I am not AC certified they did not offer me a maintenance position instead offering me porter position with maintenance duty's. Great I thought I would clean in the morning and do work orders in the afternoon when it got hot

except I was Wrong!

Not only is it a huge property but its two of them side by side. The last company had 4 to 6 people doing my job but the new company has just me cleaning two complex's totaling almost 1,000 units! Its damn near 1/8th a mile deep and same across. Today was my 5th day and I was told by management that I no longer required a golf cart as I would be more efficiant on foot!!!! I am sunburnt to hell and back despite sunscreen SPF 50. They now want me to carry not only a bucket and picker (For trash) but a forty pound backpack vacuum thingy. And I no longer have a means to carry water. Did I happen to mention that it was 94 degrees today and soon it will be Arizona's beloved 115+

Now my daddy sure didn't raise no quitter but for $11 bucks an hour I am starting to feel that they are crossing the line of sanity and safety here.

After 5 days I truly feel like I have seen hell and its only gonna get hotter.
My pride says stick it out but my body says ARE YOU INSANE? LETS FLIP THE BIRD AND GET WALKING!!!!

It takes a couple weeks to get fully climatized and two or three weeks for your body to get used to the labor. If you can stick it out that far, you got it licked.

And if it took you 8 months to land even that job... its not like you got much of a choice.

Don't quit. Make smaller goals for yourself. DO NOT look at the full length of how much there is to do, you'll only discourage yourself. Instead only focus on the task most immediate at hand. If parts become repetitious, make up colorful names for those parts for a laugh. (just keep those names to yourself)

After 8 months of working, I'm sure you were quite happy to get the job, however, they seem to be torturing you. Get ahold of them and discuss your concerns in person. If they don't fix the situation, I think it might be time to start looking for another new job. Sorry bud

Are you sure thats pride?

Two little questions.
Did the last company that lost the job to the new cut price slave driver employ its 4-6 people because they were AC certified and could do all the jobs the tender involved and would their certification have meant they got better paid as qualified workers and be better covered with workers legislation.

One more question. Wasn't you forming your own company doing Swimming Pools?

Yea free market I know! Yes it was me starting the pool business but just as that was taking off my partner found work and I found work at a machine shop so it died a quiet death. Actually we found that market forces meant that larger company's were dropping prices so low that we couldn't remain competitive and make a decent living.

I know I have to get acclimated and I am sticking it out for now. I gave myself a rule that I wont make any decisions for 30 days unless it gets worse.
