uboat number

Hi all,and a big thanks to all the modders.I dont know if anyone has looked into this ,but how come the uboats dont have their numbers painted on the side?
I think this would be more important than the personal insignia etc. Wondered if this could be modded.

Pre-war boats had their numbers. As soon as the war began they removed them. After 1939 no u-boat had a number on it.
