Just started playing again after a couple of years. Checked the stickies to no avail. Had some basic questions.
1. What is the range that your boat becomes visible to the enemy, both daytime and night assuming good weather? What about spotting your periscope only. 2. Where can you find sunset and dawn times before it happens? 3. Is it more difficult for a good torpedo run during rough weather? Adjust torpedo depth for that? 4. Is there a penalty if you leave your torpedo doors open too long? I have a few more but I'll wait. Thanks for all your help. Im enjoying this sim more and more. JohnW

I'm assuming your playing stock:
1) Thats very complex. It's hard for me to answer because of the combination of so many factors. Someone might have the stock distances but lots of things affect that. 2) Keep good records when you leave base. Pay attention each day because the times change. Your game clock will always display your base time but if your on the other side of the world the times will be different. 3) Rough seas will cause more duds but other than that probably no difference. 4) No penalty for leaving the doors open (though there should be). The doors will automatically close when you dive passed 100 ft.

Yep, visuals and sensors change based on mod, crew ratings, weather, etc. I stay about 6 nm's away from escorts playing TMO, the enemy will start lobbing shells at you at 10,000 yards. I think stock is 3000.
When shooting torps in bad weather don't use the influence setting, use contact only. You'll still get some duds, but less premature explosions. The moon and sun phases are fairly accurate in the game. You go to the poles in the winter, expect about an hour of daylight. Moon phases are about perfect, pull moon phases and ecilpse schedules from the net for war years and they show up about right on time. |

2. Sunrise and sunset time will (pretty much) be the same as (or close to) what it was the day before, unless you can travel a significant distance into another time zone at 20/21 knots top speed. 3. If you have "Dud" torpedoes enabled, Armistead's advice should prove helpful. Bad weather/rough seas (I think) also makes it harder for the enemy to hear the approaching torp. 4. No. Welcome abroad. ![]() ![]()
