Dutch military cleans house

http://www.nisnews.nl/public/080411_2.htm

You Britons think you got it bad? The Dutch just caned 17 Cougar Helicopters, 4 Mine Sweepers, all 60 of its Leopard tanks, 1/3 of its F-16s and 6,000 troops.

Yay.

We can do without the Leopards, but sizing down the navy and airforce doesn't seem very sensible at this point.

Ouch, unlucky chaps. Pretty soon we'll be relying on France to defend us all.

What you need to do is store the F16s, increase the price, and then in a couple of years we'll buy them when we realise we do need some aircraft in the air force (but we won't undergo a maintenance contract!). Then a couple of years after that we'll sell them back at a heavily discounted rate.

What? That's the way it works, isn't it?

That sounds about right.

We could do with some F-16s.

Well don't buy them from us! This morning a Dutch f16 made a landing in Belgium. It crashed through it's landing gear (don't know how to describe that exactly) and part of the tail broke off. It was on it's way to Chile, to which we sold the f16. So if you're going to buy used Dutch f16's, be sure to keep the receipt

Europe has been de-arming itself for years, the real price will come out in the future when others in the world do the opposite.
