Games like Age of Empires/Empire Earth/Empires: DOTMW?
I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend any modern games in the venue of those in the topic title. I'm primarily thinking of games that have a rich variety of units and settings, and a trigger system you can do a lot of different things with. I designed scenarios a lot when I was younger, and it'd be good to get back in the saddle again with some contemporary game with a lively audience
![]() Otherwise I'll just go back to Empires: DOTMW and not care that no one else play it anymore :p .

World in conflict complete edition. I hear the MP is well alive too. It;s modern alright. And it looks damn good too.

I'll have to recommend Rise of Nations. It's very close to the games you listed, and it is excellent. EDIT: Though admittedly not very modern.

Indeed.
Well I wouldn't ctageorize Rise of Nations as one of games worth getting. It's not bad but it's just not excellent

Some good oldies
Age of Mythology (Its AoE done over with the Mythology) Act of War (This was a real surprise when it came out in 2005 - up there with C&C) Supreme Commander 1 (imho one of the best RTS games) Supreme Commander 2. Haven't played this but from what ive read its more a lighter version aimed at C&C game style. |

I would certainly agree with supreme commander 1, 2 fell flat on its face for being seriously oversimplified.
Rise of Nations wasn't bad either, though I wouldn't call it exceptional. World In Conflict is not a base building game, though it is an RTS. You could also maybe look at the Warhammer 40k Dawn of War series, or Company of Heroes A game I am looking forward to is Stronghold 3, which might fit the bill http://www.stronghold3.com/ |

Ya, they are trying to get back to the gameplay of the first one after stronghold 2 (no more gong farming and other annoying stuff to deal with). I think it is due to come out in august
