Most prisons in the UK are heavily overcrowded, but I have a solution; bring back the Napoleonic war era Prison Hulks. That will make convicts less likely to re-offend

Interesting find, Steed.
I am scratching my head here. Sometimes I get the idea that the British yellow press is making stories up for political purposes or at least for entertainment for the masses.
Did they read about the story that actually happened in Germany and decided to pick up the story and let it play in England or did they decide to research how things are in English prisons after reading the story from Germany? Or is it just pure coincidence?

Here is from a court decision in Germany that dates from February, 9th 2011:

A prisoner in Germany had applied for permission to buy women's clothing and women's underwear to wear these during times locked up in his cell. He argued that he felt like being a transsexual for some time and that he wanted to try out a so-called „real-life experience“as a woman now.

Head of the prison denied permission and argued that the man's real-life experience as a woman could not be realised in a socially acceptable manner in a men's prison. Even if the prisoner would wear the women's clothes only when locked up in his cell, there still would be the risk that other prisoners find out about it. The protection of prisoners against assaults by other prisoners is more import than the prisoner's lack of sexual orientation.

The Higher Regional court said that the man's real-life experience as a woman already can not be socially unacceptable because of the prisoner's intention to wear the women's clothes in his own private sanctuary, that is his cell only and not when he is together with other male prisoners.

The general right of personality and the ban on sexual discrimination entitle men to wear women's clothes as well as women.
The court pointed out that the possibility of sexual and violent assaults against the prisoner in case that inmates detect the women's clothes and underwear does exist and is for real. A ban to wear women's clothes could be justified in individual cases but only when it turns out that the public safety and order in the prison can not be maintained otherwise.

Sounds familiar?

Anyway, where is my lipstick?

Just find a large deserted island, give them water, seeds, rice and beans and let them play the game Surivivor for real. Check on them once a year.
In 20 years be interesting to see what culture they formed.

Define mate for me Steed. When you say "mate", is that a "cell" mate of yours? Do I need to send you the Victoria's Secert catalog?

Good to hear! That would make the next subsim meet awfully awkward, when we go to visit Steed.

I thought they sent the "undesirables" to Australia?

We did, maybe the UK should do it again and send them to some unforgiving Island.
