Default avatar request

Rather embarrased to ask but is anyone good with photoshop or the like or at least could guide me what to do? I'd like to make an avatar with a periscope view superimposed on an image (in this case of Geneva's famous fountain the Jet d'Eau) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_d'Eau

Can anyone help? Seems like it "ought" to be simple.

Game or RL periscope view?

Either way it's the same process, just depends how natural you want it to look.

Take your 2 images and open them in Photoshop.

Make the Periscope View the active canvas and duplicate the Layer (right click on the Icon in the Layers Palette). Select the Elliptical Marque Tool (it's at the top of the tools on the left hand side, right click to bring up the sub menu).

On your periscope view, take the marque tool and mark out the circular view port. FYI, Holding SHIFT will keep the marque to a true circle and Holding SPACE will allow you to move the marque around the canvas, do this while still holding down the left mouse button.

When you are happy with your selection, head to the Select > Modify menu and choose Feather, set the value to 1 or 2 px. Now bring your cursor back down to the active canvas and right-click inside the marque. Choose Layer Via Cut.

Head back over to the Layers Palette and set the Visibility of the Cut out and Original Layer to off. See the hole you just created?

Now, make the Fountain the active canvas and go to Select > All. Dancing ants should now surround the fountain. Now go to Edit > Copy.

Make the periscope the active layer and go Edit > Paste. The Fountain should now be in the layer palette of the periscope. Drag and drop the fountains icon in the layers palette to below the periscope icon and it should appear in the view port.

Now you need to add the periscope markings. In the layer palette, create a new blank layer (bottom of the palette). Now head back over to the tool palette (left side) and select the Line Tool, it's in the sub menu of the Rectangle Tool (below the Text and Path tools). Along the top, below the menus, are the Tool sub options, namely px thickness and colour. Set these how you wish. Draw your lines. SHIFT and SPACE do the same thing here.

Once done, back to the layer palette, right click on a visible layer icon and 'merge visible'.

That should be it.

All done from memory, so post if you're having trouble.

Failing that post the images and I'm sure someone will do it for you.
