I am new to this sim and Subsim.com. I have The Grey Wolves expansion loaded into a new loaded version of Silent HunterIII with all the patches, running in Windows XP Professional. For the most part it seems to be a great improvement over the standard program.
I ran the training school sorties, mostly O.K. So I started my first campaign running from Kiel (Flotilla 1) into the North sea via the Kiel canal which was strangely wide but O.K. Weather mostly calm and not a cloud to be seen, which you would expect in August 1939. Met one short rough patch on the way to my east coast of England sector. Explored up and down the east coast after the 24 hours in the sector. Then came the problem. Passing Newcastle going south it started to rain, the sea got very rough and you can hear the wind blowing and the thunder rumbling. Have never before seen it raining out of a clear blue sky with the sun shining. It continusd like this for the next 6 days (in August?) including rough even in the Kiel canal on return. Are there no clouds? You can see them in the GWX 3 publicity stills. The silly unreal weather spoils an otherwise very good sim. Is there a way of controling this, or is there a download that will sort it? HELP! Last edited by Richard Lenton; 02-17-11 at 11:57 AM. |

Hi,
You definitely should have cloud cover, and pretty realistic looking it is too! I would hope Jimbuna or one of the other GWX team see this post soon as they would be best placed to explore what may be messing with your weather. Do you have any other mods installed at all? I know from reading up here that many of them can "break" the game if installed in the wrong order or with conflicting mods. Good luck ![]()

On the one hand, I see clouds all the time. On the other I do sometimes see it rain out of a clear sky. This is a problem that comes stock with the game, not GWX. No one can fix it, but GWX didn't cause it.

I've noticed this affecting my game too. Start & end of patrol are fine, but then it seems to get messy all the time im out at sea. Constant 15m/s winds and high seas of 5m or more!!

Once you get later into the war, around late '42 onwards, you'll be glad of overcast clouds with rain and heavy seas.
