UK ministers 'wanted Lockerbie bomber released'
The previous UK government did "all it could" to facilitate the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, a report on the case has said.
Sir Gus O'Donnell, the country's most senior civil servant, said there was an underlying desire to see Mr Megrahi released before he died. But his report will also conclude it was made clear to Libya that the final decision was up to Scottish ministers. Megrahi was convicted of the 1988 atrocity, in which 270 people died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-12381612 Note: 7 February 2011 Last updated at 13:15 GMT

Ok, so there was pressure to send Megrahi home.
Megrahi, the only person convicted of the atrocity, was freed on compassionate grounds when, terminally ill with prostate cancer, Scottish doctors suggested he had only three months to live. He is still alive. When are we going to see the investigative report detailing the real reason this turd was released. |
