Charlie Gilmour charged over student protest violence

The son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has been charged with violent disorder during a protest against increased tuition fees in London.

Charlie Gilmour, 21, of Billinghurst, Sussex, is also accused of stealing a mannequin leg on 9 December.

He is due at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 10 February.

Christopher Hilliard, 22, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, and a 17-year-old from Cheshire who cannot be named were also charged with violent disorder.

The Metropolitan Police also said three people had been charged with alleged offences at two earlier demonstrations against the government's proposals for education.

My position still stands.

At least somebody in this world is willing to stand up to the rising cost of school. It's a pitty it's violent, but I can understand why.

There are always those who want to go to extremes, and then they pay the price.

^^

I'm not really in favour of the tuition fees lies and broken promises made during the campaign for office by both the tories and the li-dems (were I a student I'd be angry too), though on closer inspection the fees are higher, but the repayments are smaller and over a much longer time period, and the threshold for earnings before you have to repay is also higher and after 30 years any debt is wiped out and whilst you're still a student you don't actually have to 'pay' anything... But there's protesting then there's dancing on dead men's graves.

Other than being a spoilt, f e c kless*, rich kid with nothing better to do, charlie gilmour ought to learn some damn manners and respect. Given the all-round reasonable guy guitar hero his dad is, he clearly has a great deal to learn about the world.

* stupid filter.
