Went to see Tron Legacy with the wife this evening.
Really enjoyed it actually. Synopsis: After freeing the digital world in the film TRON, Flynn returns to the real world stepping between his reality and the alternative reality of the digital world as he wishes. He, and his digital likeness "Clu" partner to become the fathers the perfect digital world. During one of Flynn's visits to the growing digital utopia, "Clu" citing a number of imperfections, betrays Flynn and attempts a coup against him. Flynn narrowly escapes the digital city with his life, but in his escape, the portal between the digital world and his own closes and can only be opened from the outside. The son Flynn left behind has been searching for his much idolized father since. When one of Flynn's old partners receives a mysterious pager message from Flynn's old abandoned arcade the son, now 27 years old renews his search with fresh passion. Upon entering the old arcade, the younger Flynn finds it just as his father had left it, and after discovering his fathers old computer terminal, he accidentally sends himself into the digital world. After reuniting with his ousted father, the two are thrust into a race against time to reach the closing portal to which Flynn holds the key. But "Clu", amassing an army has sinister plans of his own for the real world. The film is visually stunning, and though a lot of the film relies heavily on the events of the past TRON movie, enough is explained through the well developed plot that you dont have to be a huge fan of the original TRON to keep up, though i will say that there will probably be a lot of the 20 and under crowd wondering where in the hell this TRON concept came from. The film is a mix of 3D and 2D imagery that draws the viewer in and doesnt let go. Though the film is relatively quick to get to the point of thrusting the young Flynn into the digital world, it isn't so hasty as to leave gaping plot holes like a lot of films are guilty of. The digital world we see in TRON Legacy is amazing, and by the end of the film things are left open ended just barely enough that the viewer longs to go back to the digital world and explore things a little more. TRON Legacy is a film which is sure to secure it's position as a Science Fiction Masterpiece. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars
