If you bought Silent Hunter 4 and the U-Boat Missions via Steam recently, as I did, you might be trying to figure out just what the heck the deal is.
Here's the thing: You can't have both plain old SH4 (Wolves of the Pacific) installed at the same time as the U-Boat Missions. If you do, neither one will launch, apparently because they interfere with each other. Having just SH4 is no good, because it is only version 1.3, where you need version 1.5 to use the latest versions of mods (Trigger Maru Overhauled et al). U-Boat Missions as sold on Steam isn't exactly an expansion. Rather, when you install it, you get regular SH4 plus the U-Boat Missions stuff. Also the version is updated to 1.5. I haven't yet downloaded TMO or other mods, so I don't know whether they work with the Steam version of SH4 + UBM. They should, but plenty of things that "should" work don't, at times. In sum: Do not bother to download/install plain old SH4 if you bought both it and UBM. Just install the U-Boat Missions "expansion." I hope this post is helpful to someone. I had to figure it out by downloading, then uninstalling, stuff a few times over. Steam assumes it's no big deal to re-download 3+ GB repeatedly. Yeah, maybe if we all had gigabit Internet connections. I have 6 megabit cable & it still took an annoyingly long time.

actually, I have both steam versions, and I play any which one I like. None interferes with the other. Are you sure your download was successful? cuz as far as I know, SH4 took me 3 days to get, whereas, UBM only took a day roughly. I still havent played the German side yet, but I will as soon as I get bored of US subs (which is too good to be true). But if the game has a conflict, uninstall both, and reinstall after defrag and clean up.
Might wanna check this thread out: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133290

Download was successful, for sure. I verified the local files & it came out 100% OK.
Also appears to be complete. My "Wolves of the Pacific" folder is over 5 GB. That's got to be the whole of SHIV + UBM, right?. I just did a war patrol with an S-boat from Manila, so I'm pretty sure all the "regular" SHIV files are present. Also started one with a Type IX D2 so the U-boat part works as well. I knew someone would be along shortly to say it worked differently for him. I'm sure that's true, but I installed both (regular SHIV + UBM) at first, and neither one worked. As soon as I uninstalled either UBM or regular SHIV, the other began working. So only having one or the other installed works for at least some of us who got it through Steam. I didn't have to fool with the registry, at least not yet. But like I said, I haven't tried any of the mods with my SH4 install.

Yeah, I do that from time to time anyway. I know all too well what a mess the Windows registry can be.
