Graphic Issue
I need some help from you folks:
I have just purchased DVD versions of both SH3 and 4. Install went fine on Windows 7 Home Premium 64, game starts nicely, no CTD's etc. However, and this occurs identically in both game, once I start a mission and enter either the periscope or bridge screen, the screen becomes distorted and flickery. The game does not crash, mind you. After ending the game, the flickering persists even on the desktop. The PC is only days old and contains a Nvidia GeForce 6150SE (lame, I know, but should be sufficient for at least SH3). I tried several different settings with Nvidia control panel, including all possible AA settings, to no avail. ![]() Other system specs: Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) 145 Processor, ~2.8GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Available OS Memory: 1792MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Thanks so much for your help! |

Sounds like drivers for the graphix card. Try updating them, if that doesnt work, get a new card. 6150 is like 8 years old right? I run a 7800GTX on my machine and SH3 runs great. You can get a new card that is sufficient for like $40

Well, I just bought this PC for my home office...I only play a few games (including COD4, which works like a charm)...and ordered SH3+4 after checking that they will work with this video card.
@Gargamel: Newest driver installed. No effect. Cannot update to different card, because mini tower with on-board video card. I just installed SH3 on my 3 year old laptop, and it works just fine there with some cheap on-board ATI...go figure. I also tried to tweak some of the settings via Nhencer. Still the same effect. I'm really not too demanding when it comes to hi-res graphics, but somehow I should be able to make this work?! |

Well.... you can upgrade.. but it's a real pain to do so.... just play it on the laptop then! It's for your office, your not supposed to be playing anyways!.

I'm the owner of the company, so I guess it's ok LOL
But seriously, I figure it's just some stupid Video card setting...maybe somebody out there runs the same card and can share settings? The other idea I had was installing an older driver...would that work?! |

The latest drivers are not allways better. So give it a try.
When I installed SH3 it also put a shortcut to a system requirement test tool in the start menu folder, called 'Detection Tool'. What does it report. Maybe the graphics chip isn't capable of performing all necessary functions.

If the case has any expansion slots at all, you should be able to get a 6600 GT in PCI format; granted it will cost a bit more but is a much better card that what you've got. |

@ Tessa:
Does this card you mention require an additional power supply? I do have both PCI and PCIe available. |

Maybe another idea,
What are the temperatures of your hardware? Is your pc free of dust?

It sounds like your graphics card is overheating. The same thing happens to me sometimes, only I get crashes too.

Well, as I said before: by now the PC is only 2 weeks old...and by the time the "phenomenon" occurs, the fan didn't even kick on yet.

I may be mistaken here, but built in GPU's usually dont have seperate fans. they aren't designed to be high performance chips under stress.
I'd actually have it sent back and replaced, as it's still under warranty. |
